The History Place
Step Back Through Time
Operated by the Carteret County Historical Society and free to the public, The History Place in Morehead City offers an in-depth look into the past of Carteret County. Intricate displays provide visitors with a fascinating walk through an old general store and an early school room, a doctor’s office and even an actual Victorian parlor.Check out the carriage of a confederate spy and relive the Civil War, learn about the area’s railroad history and see the working model railroad. Native American artifacts, household furniture and items, Civil War weapons and period furniture from this particular area help visitors experience firsthand what life was like in Carteret County 100 to 300 years ago. The museum also provides workshops on genealogy, walking tours of the area and historic bus tours. Finish your visit with high tea at the Tea Clipper, or on Fridays, enjoy lunch over a bit of history with an award-winning storyteller and historian.
