Little Known Facts about Indian Beach, NC

2009-06-15

Incorporated back in 1973, Indian Beach is a small ocean and sound front town on the island of Bogue Banks located on the NC Crystal Coast.  Its island neighbors include Emerald Isle on one end and Atlantic Beach (home to Fort Macon) on the other end.  There’s also Pine Knoll Shores, home of the NC Aquarium, and tiny Salter Path snuggled up right in the middle of Indian Beach.

One interesting fact that most people don’t know is that Indian Beach is actually located on both sides of its island neighbor Salter Path. When its residents decided to incorporate back in 1973, they asked Salter Path to join them.  The Salter Path residents decided not to merge with them, so Indian Beach just incorporated around the town.  The result is Salter Path nestled in the middle with Indian Beach to the east and to the west.  When you drive through the area, you will find yourself entering the town of Indian Beach, and then about a mile later, you’ll enter Salter Path.  Continue on for another mile, and you’re back in the town of Indian Beach.

Another interesting fact is that the island of Bogue Banks a southward facing island, so you can see both the sunrise and the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.  This is a unique characteristic of the island as most of the North Carolina barrier islands face east.  Grande Villas homeowners get to enjoy this natural wonder from their oceanfront balconies,  infinity-edge style pool, or from the beach in their back yard.
